Update or uninstall Prismattyc

Use the built-in updater to install a release. Use pmux uninstall when you want to remove Prismattyc from this computer.

Find pmux on macOS

When Prismattyc starts, it links its bundled pmux command in /usr/local/bin when possible. Otherwise, it uses ~/.local/bin. The app does not edit shell profiles. If that directory is not on your PATH, or another pmux comes first, Prismattyc prints the path and recovery steps.

Update Prismattyc

  1. Run pmux update --check to check for a release.
  2. Run pmux update to install it. prismattyc update runs the same updater.
  3. On macOS, quit Prismattyc and reopen it from the Dock. Your running sessions keep going.

On Linux and Windows, the updater installs the new binaries and keeps a previous version for rollback. On macOS, it downloads the universal app, verifies it, and replaces Prismattyc.app. The previous app is removed after the new one is checked, so macOS rollback is not available.

On macOS, the app must be able to write to its application folder. If the update stops because the folder is locked, move Prismattyc.app to ~/Applications or run the update with admin rights.

To reinstall a specific macOS version, download its disk image from GitHub Releases.

Uninstall Prismattyc

  1. Run pmux uninstall --dry-run to see what the command will remove.
  2. Run pmux uninstall and confirm the removal.

The default removes Prismattyc, its settings, and saved Spaces. Add --keep-data to keep your Spaces and configuration. Add --yes to skip the confirmation prompt.

On macOS, uninstall removes the pmux link only when it matches the link Prismattyc created. It leaves Cargo-installed and other unmanaged pmux files alone.
